REDWOOD AND FOSTER SWITCH TO A VIPER | 08.08.07

Team RPM have transferred Nigel Redwood and Nick Foster into the teams 3rd Dodge Viper instead of the teams Porsche 997. Redwood explains:

"All year the 997 has been off the pace and the FIA equalisation has not favoured the Porsche. With the Porsche you can get one relatively fast lap out of the car, but because of the cars low down force package over a race distance the car uses its tyres to hard and the performance drop off is much greater than any other car on the grid. However, up until Brands Hatch I felt we had not got the best out of the 997 in setup and as drivers and that is the reason a switch was not made earlier in the year. At Brands we continued our development and I felt that we got the maximum out of the car. Looking at the data we have from the first 4 race meetings in the 997’s current configuration you can only truly compete for 8th place at best. Now Porsche have introduced an update kit to get the 997 on the pace, however this is 48,000 EUR which is a big expense for the team considering there is only 4 race meetings to go.

Myself and Nick are learning GT’s this year, so when the team offered us a Viper, which we know is more on the pace, I felt it was a sensible switch. We will run in the Viper for the rest of the year, which will give myself and Nick very good experience in a completely different GT car”
