ROUND 1 - A TOUGH WEEKEND FOR FOSTER AND REDWOOD – BUT SIGNIFCANT PROGRESS WAS MADE | 10.04.07

The British GT Championship kicked off in style this weekend at Oulton Park with two very different races.

Redwood and Foster finished 10th in race one and 17th in race two, but the results did not reflect the massive progress that the duo made during the weekend.

As Redwood explained “This weekend has been one long test session for the two of us. So far this year we have only tested the car once on the Press Day at Silverstone and most of that was consumed by running in the gear box. Therefore, Friday at testing was our first real outing in the car and it highlighted some setup issues that we needed to address”

However, having never raced a Porches 997 before, Redwood and Foster had to experiment to learn how setup changes affected the car.

Redwood explains “We finished testing on Friday 21st quickest which was very disappointing. Some hard work from Angus and the team saw us change the setup of the car and by qualifying we managed to get up to 11th in race one qualifying and 8th in race two qualifying”

Redwood continues “The first race we finished 10th, which was a good solid result, especially considering where we were at on Friday in testing. We lost out under the safety car, but the race was great, and even after 55 minutes we were nose to tail in a fight for position. However, we suffered towards the end of the race with setup and again we made changes for Mondays race. In warm up on Monday following the changes, we were 4th quickest and were able to post a quicker time on old tyres than we did in race one. Therefore, going into race two on Monday we were confident of a great result. Unfortunately, the pre race expectation was not matched by the result, we picked up a puncture on about lap 6 shortly after the safety car period, it was a shame because we had climbed to sixth and the car felt great”.

The puncture put the RPM duo a lap down and they did well to battle back to 17th in very tricky and changing conditions.

Redwood and Foster were delighted with the progress that they and the team made with the car, and the time in the car was invaluable. The next round can’t come quick enough and a point’s finish is the next target.
