REDWOOD CLINCHES CHAMPIONSHIP | 02.11.06
|
|
The
2006 Radical Enduro Championship came to its conclusion on Sunday, with Nigel
Redwood from Wolverhampton clinching the title after a season long battle with
title rivals James Richardson and Ben Devlin.
Redwood has trailed
Richardson all year, after the Team RPM car driven by Redwood had a nightmare
start to the season with three mechanical DNF's (did not finish) in the first
six races - all the bad luck of the year coming in the first three meetings.
Since then the AK IT Sponsored Team RPM car built up a massive winning
momentum taking 10 wins out of the last 12 races of the season. The pressure of
this winning streak on title rival Richardson finally concluded in the title
slipping away from Richardson in the last race of the year.
Redwood and
Richardson ended the year level on points, but with Redwood being awarded the
championship based on his greater number of wins, 11 in total out of the 18 on
the seasons calendar.
Redwood shared the car with Alex Mortimer
throughout the year accept at meetings that clashed with other GT commitments
that Alex had. The pair throughout the season took a total of 11 pole
positions, 6 fastest laps, 14 podium finishes and 11 race wins. All would not
have been possible without the great work put in by all of Team RPM, especially
Jason and Paul who worked on the car all year round and Alex Mortimer who
brilliantly partnered Redwood during the year. Redwood and Mortimer were able
to work together with Jason and Paul to ensure that the car was perfectly setup
for each race meeting. The ability for the four of them to communicate and work
as a team was key to the championship success.
This would not have been
possible with out the sponsors, AK IT Solutions, e-know.net Limited,
messagehub, CML Distribution and Quaife.
A big thanks also to Robin
Mortimer for giving Redwood the opportunity to drive for RPM this season.
