Nearly 40
Radicals awoke from their winter slumber on a beautiful
sunny winter's day at Brands Hatch on Tuesday 2nd March.
In addition to Clubsports, Prosports and SR3's, several
SR4's broke cover. Many of the larger Radical teams were
there - In2Racing, RSR, Team RPM and Team MDR and it was
good to see a handful of "privateers" in attendance too.
Already the SR4 drivers are beginning to show what these
cars are capable of, new to the championship, James
Saggers putting in a low 47-second lap with Alex
Mortimer also putting in laps of 47 seconds. Radical
directors, Mick Hyde and Phil Abbott were also out in
their new SR4's. Mick was cagey about his times when
asked; "I was looking at a 48 second lap he said but
my computer says I'm capable of a 45, how am I to
disagree".
New to the SR3 scene ex-Legends drivers, father and son,
John and Chris Bell were smiling from the minute the
wheels hit the tarmac. "I've never driven a car with so
much grip," said father, John. Son, Chris, was lapping
in 51 secs on his first few laps and reduced that figure
as the day wore on.
Team MDR, headed by Martin Donnelly, fielded two SR3
cars and 3 drivers - Martins' co-driver from 2003 will,
this season be partnered by Damien Byrne and a single
driver entry from Jon Scott. Martin will not be driving
this year but hopes to be at every round in his new role
as Team Manager.
Fresh from attending a trackday at Estoril, Team RPM
were there with their drivers Alex Mortimer (SR4) and
Jeremy Ferguson (SR4).
It was good to see seasoned Radical stalwarts Tim Jones,
Jim Greenfield and Ian Charles giving their Clubsport
cars an airing and last years' Prosport 3rd place man,
Nick Dove was trying his hand in the SR3.
Radical have organised another pre-season test at
Snetterton next week (Tuesday March 9th). If you are
interested please contact Amanda on 01733 331818 for
