Official Review:-

The home of British Motorsport (Silverstone) will be the venue next weekend (7th and 8th June) for Rounds 7 and 8 of the UK Formula Ford Championship and the action is heating up. Only 43 points separate the top ten drivers in the championship class and 69 points in scholarship.

Add to this all three of the top chassis manufacturers have seen an overall win so far this year and with 64 points on offer for each class next weekend, the title battle is very open.

Panasonic Batteries Racing Team JLR’s Tom Kimber-Smith (Wokingham) leapt from seventh to first on the leader board after two superb wins at Thruxton two weeks ago, with a five-point lead over his nearest rival reigning Finnish Formula Ford Champion Valle Makela (Nexa Racing).

A disastrous weekend at Thruxton for title contender Ben Clucas saw him scored two DNFs and means he drops to third place on the leader board with 115 points. Alx Danielsson, RaySport, drops to fourth place after disappointing finishes at Thruxton, but the Swedish teenager is confident he will return to the podium this weekend. Tony Rodgers, Raysport, is just seven points behind on 101.

Meanwhile in the Avon Tyres Scholarship Class Stephen Jelley has managed to increase his lead and his Silverware collection, scoring a second and third places at Thruxton. His total points tally takes him to 142 points, 19 ahead of his nearest rival James Walker.

Walker, Panasonic Batteries Racing Team JLR, found his form again at Thruxton scoring two consecutive wins and lifting him from fourth place on the point’s table. Antonio Perez, Team MDR, is snapping on his heels however on 118 points. In fourth place is Peter Chambers Motor Racing’s Julian Yap, a consistent points scorer on 115.

Jay Howard, Team MDR, is not far astray on 109 points and is still a title contender. In joint sixth place are his teammates Diego Fernandez and Nigel Redwood on 98.

So who will take the honours on Silverstone’s long 3.2 mile International Circuit? This season’s championship is proving to be very competitive with exciting, close racing every time out.

Qualifying will take place on Saturday 7th June at 09.00am with round 7 of the championship later in the afternoon at 14.50. Round 8 of championship is scheduled to commence at 15.20pm.
