Snetterton To See Sizzling Action - Three Race Weekend
Official Review:-
No less than five different
drivers from four different teams, with three different
chassis have taken a win so far this season in the
HarrierZeuros UK Formula Ford Championship, proving this
year’s series is one of the most competitive to date.
Only 101 points separate the top
ten drivers in the championship class and things are
about to get even more exciting.
In just over a week the 1.9 mile
track at Snetterton, Norfolk, will be the venue for
Rounds 13 and 14 of the championship as well as round
eight, which was postponed at Silverstone. Therefore a
mighty 95 points are up for grabs on Friday 8th
and Saturday 9th August and it could
drastically alter the leader board.
Currently championship leader
Panasonic Batteries Racing Team JLR driver Tom Kimber-Smith
(273points) has a 29-point advantage over his nearest
rival Valle Makela (Nexa Racing).
Continental Racing’s Joey Foster
has jumped up two places to third overall with 191
points following his third and fourth placing at Croft.
Ben Clucas, who started the season with first
consecutive wins, is only two points adrift on 189.
Estonian Marko Asmer is close
behind on 188 following his outstanding performance at
Croft, taking the top honours for both races at the
North Yorkshire venue. Alx Danielsson is just an exhaust
fume behind in sixth place with 184 points. Comtec
Racing’s Tom Gaymor, currently in seventh place on 151
points, will be hoping for a clean get-away from the
pack for Round 8, which he starts in pole position.
In the scholarship class James
Walker, Panasonic Batteries Racing Team JLR, has edged
into the lead from Medina Sport’s Stephen Jelley
following his third consecutive win.
Walker, who contested the Avon
Tyres Junior Formula Ford Championship last season, has
racked up seven race wins to date only failing to finish
one at Mondello early in the season. Jelley, Leicester,
has only taken the top of the podium once, however his
consistent driving has seen his points tally grow and
will be no means be giving Walker an easy run.
Team MDR’s Jay Howard has
maintained his third placing overall (184) and is hungry
for another race win. The Essex-based racer had to watch
from the sidelines during round 11, despite securing
pole position. His car was pushed off the grid
immediately before the race after is gushed oil onto the
circuit. His determination was evident the next day,
starting from the back of the grid he managed to claim
the fastest lap and took second place in his class.
Quietly spoken Julian Yap (Team
PCMR) kept out of trouble on track and remains in fourth
place only three points astray of Howard on 181 points.
Meanwhile a battle for fifth is ongoing with Medina
Sport’s Hideto Yasuoka and Nigel Redwood (Team MDR) tied
on 170 points.
So what will be the outcome at
Snetterton in two weeks time? The level of
competitiveness and determination from all drivers this
season makes it very difficult to gauge. One thing is
certain; there will be lots of on track entertainment
with the HarrierZeuros UK Formula Ford Championship.
Official testing for the
HarrierZeuros UK Formula Ford Championship will take
place at Snetterton on Wednesday 6th August
from 09.00am.
Qualifying for Rounds 13 and 14
will take place on Friday 8th August at
13.00pm. The postponed Round 8 is scheduled to start at
17.55 with Rounds 13 and 14 on Saturday 9th
August.
